Our Postpartum Life

Maternal Support Services

What is a Postpartum Doula?

A Doula, or Maternal Support Practitioner, is a trained professional who provides the birthing person and their partner with informational support, physical support, and emotional support, during the prenatal, labour, delivery, and postpartum phases of childbirth. We work alongside you and your healthcare team to support you in achieving an empowered birth experience. As a Postpartum Doula, I provide supports and services following the birth of your baby. Using evidence-based information, I am trained to provide you with the tools necessary to navigate your postpartum period so that you feel confident and comfortable moving forward in your parenting journey.

Informational Support

I am a resource for all things postpartum. Some of the information I can provide you with includes:
-Postpartum mood disorders
-Recovery practices
-Breast/bottle feeding
-Nutrition for mom
-Positive transition from hospital to home
-Ways for the family to support mom
-How to prepare for baby
-Creating your postpartum plan

Physical Support

Your mind and body will have been through a massive transition of pregnancy, labour, and birth so rest and recovery will be key in healing. As such, I will help to provide you with physical support such as light housekeeping, meal prep, laundry, and providing newborn care while you shower, sleep, or spend time to yourself. I can also help to increase bonding between you and your newborn and maintain a healthy relationship between you and older siblings.

Emotional Support

As a Postpartum Doula, providing emotional support will mean providing a calm, relaxing, and positive environment for your family at home. It will also mean providing reassurance when necessary and empowering you with the confidence you need to continue doing an amazing job. I will be a listening ear when you need to talk, cry, or laugh. I will help guide you to any necessary resources when appropriate. As well, I will help you and your family adjust as seamlessly as possible in your new transition with baby.
